Duane Betts Invites You To His ‘Isle Of Hope’ On New Album

Duane Betts, son of the late Allman Brothers co-founder Dickey Betts, released his second solo album, Isle of Hope, in July 2026 on the iconic Sun Records label. The album derives its name from the neighborhood in Savannah, Georgia where Betts and his band recorded the ten-track collection. For Betts, Isle of Hope represents a sanctuary and escape from everyday stress, echoing his father's philosophy that music provides a reprieve for listeners to immerse themselves in for a few hours. The album follows his 2023 solo debut, Wild & Precious Life, and continues to showcase his distinctive Southern rock roots.

Betts worked with famed producer Dave Cobb, a nine-time Grammy winner known for collaborations with artists like Chris Stapleton and Brandi Carlile. The recording process was cathartic and enjoyable for Betts, who embraced both reflective songwriting and more energetic rock elements. The album opens with “Heartache,” a psychedelic, mournful track inspired by his father's passing in April 2024. Drawing influence from Pink Floyd and David Gilmour, the song showcases an atmospheric sound elevated significantly by Cobb’s production.

While heartfelt and introspective moments permeate Isle of Hope, Betts also balances the mood with upbeat, engaging songs like “Down To Houston,” a swamp rocker, and “Keep My Hands Clean,” a rootsy closer. Personal history plays a key role too, as seen on “Manatee River,” a track inspired by a Florida home from his childhood where he first learned guitar amid Southern comforts like fried chicken. These familial ties form an important part of Betts’ creative identity, reflecting his connection to his roots.

Betts embraces the influence of his father’s style without shying away from it, acknowledging that his guitar playing and musical approach bear a strong resemblance to his dad’s. Recalling his father’s words, “You’re going to play guitar like me,” Betts sees this as a natural strength rather than a limitation. By blending his heritage with his own instincts, he crafts music that honors his lineage while remaining authentic to his own artistic voice.
