World Cup 2026 Coverage Makes History Across All Telemundo Platforms

Telemundo made a historic impact with its coverage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, setting new viewership records for Spanish-language television in the U.S. The final match between Spain and Argentina attracted 23.9 million viewers across Telemundo and Peacock, marking the most-watched soccer game ever on Spanish-language TV. Over the course of the 39-day tournament from June 11 to July 19, the network averaged 6.3 million viewers per game, a 143% increase over the 2022 World Cup, and featured 42 matches surpassing 6 million viewers.

Significant growth was seen during the knockout rounds, including Mexico’s Round of 16 game against England on July 5, which drew 23.2 million viewers—ranking as the second most-watched soccer match in Spanish-language media history. The third-place match between France and England also rose sharply in viewership, with 7.7 million tuning in, an increase of 225% versus 2022. These spikes reflect Telemundo’s ability to amplify engagement as tournament stakes rose, further supported by over 700 hours of original programming produced by a team of 80 on-air personalities representing all Latin American countries in the competition.

A standout factor in this success was the doubling of audience delivery via streaming platforms, which accounted for 48% of total viewers, compared to 30% in 2022. Streaming on Peacock and Telemundo’s digital channels achieved an average of 3 million viewers per match, a 297% rise from the prior World Cup. The final alone attracted 13.9 million streaming viewers, a 370% increase over the 2022 final’s streaming audience. Telemundo’s investment in digital-first features—such as vertical video formats, interactive elements on Peacock, and around-the-clock FAST channels—proved crucial in engaging a younger Gen Z demographic, which comprised one-third of the streaming audience.

In addition to impressive broadcast and streaming numbers, Telemundo’s footprint extended strongly into local markets and social media. Its 26 owned stations collectively reached 22.3 million viewers by the semifinals, up 57% from 2022, while social media video views surged to 2.25 billion—more than nine times the combined totals from the previous two World Cups. June 2026 became the highest-performing month ever for the network, averaging 1.4 million daily viewers and setting a single-day record for Spanish-language TV on July 5 with 3.6 million viewers. This milestone underscores Telemundo’s commanding role in shaping soccer fandom and media consumption among U.S. Hispanic audiences.
