The Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) and the newly formed Women’s Lacrosse League (WLL) are partnering to launch a four-nation international tournament called the Lexus Global Lacrosse Games. Debuting from December 8 to 13, 2026, in Washington, D.C., this event is designed as a lead-in to lacrosse’s return to the Olympic stage at the 2028 Los Angeles Games, where the sport will be featured in the sixes format. The PLL is drawing inspiration from the success of the NHL’s 4 Nations Face-Off, which saw record viewership in 2025, and the World Baseball Classic’s impressive ratings earlier in 2026.

Paul Rabil, PLL cofounder and president, emphasized that this tournament aims to generate excitement around Olympic lacrosse and prepare players from top lacrosse nations in a competitive environment. While the initial makeup of the teams is still tentative, the U.S. and Canada are expected to participate, given their dominant roles in the sport and history of drawing large audiences in international matchups. Japan and Australia are also potential contenders, with Japan's lacrosse scene growing rapidly and Australia gearing up as the host of the 2032 Summer Games.

The men’s competition will include top talent drawn from both the PLL and the National Lacrosse League (NLL), expanding the talent pool by involving players from the indoor box lacrosse league alongside outdoor professionals. The PLL also confirmed ongoing collaboration with national and global lacrosse governing bodies to ensure the event’s legitimacy and competitive standard. Though a broadcast partner for the Global Lacrosse Games hasn’t been named, ESPN remains the current broadcast home for PLL and WLL games and holds a minority stake in the PLL.

This new tournament is part of the PLL’s broader strategy to elevate lacrosse’s profile and expand its market presence. The league recently launched the full inaugural season of its women’s league and completed a $100 million Series E funding round led by investors including Ares and Joe Tsai. PLL CEO Mike Rabil has indicated ambitions to transition away from the single-entity league model toward individual franchise ownership, and the league is actively pursuing scripted and unscripted media projects to further boost its visibility and reach ahead of the 2028 Olympics.
