Repeat founder Ryan Williams raises $10M seed for an AI startup for private credit managers

Ryan Williams, known for co-founding Cadre, a real estate investment platform, has launched a new AI startup called Ellis AI, targeting private credit managers. The company came out of stealth mode on July 31, 2026, with $10 million in seed funding raised from prominent investors including First Round Capital, 645 Ventures, Harlem Capital, Khosla Ventures, Thrive Capital, Slow Capital, and Mellody Hobson, CEO of Ariel Alternatives. Ellis AI aims to simplify and streamline the fragmented workflows common in private credit firms by leveraging artificial intelligence.

Ellis AI addresses the inefficiencies in managing a multitude of documents, spreadsheets, and correspondences that private credit managers typically face. Williams observed that while the frontend of private markets has evolved, the operational infrastructure remains largely disjointed. His new platform integrates disparate accounting software, document systems, and data sources into one centralized location, reducing the manual work involved in tasks like portfolio monitoring and report preparation.

The startup's AI agents are designed to automate complex activities such as reconciling data, identifying discrepancies, and even assisting with closing fund books at month-end. Ellis AI connects with the existing systems used by credit firms, avoiding the need for these companies to overhaul their operations. Despite this automation, Williams emphasized that the platform maintains a "human in the loop" approach, ensuring that critical decisions remain under expert control rather than fully handing over to AI.

Williams founded Ellis AI after recognizing that operational challenges were the next major bottleneck in private markets post-Cadre. He started developing the company last year with the goal of helping firms cut through their operational noise and make quicker, more informed decisions. Although he expects AI's role to grow, Williams does not foresee it fully replacing human judgment anytime soon, underscoring a balanced approach between artificial intelligence and human expertise in private credit management.
