Golf District's New Tool Lets Golfers Name Price Point For Tee Times

Golf District, a golf booking platform used by 20 courses and growing, has introduced PricePoint, a patent-pending feature that lets golfers name their own price for prepaid tee times. This new tool enables real-time market-driven offers where golf courses can either accept higher bids as "squeeze times," adding incremental revenue, or pass the offers directly to the original tee time holders. Those holders then have the option to sell their prepaid slots for a profit, creating a secondary market that reveals the true value of premium tee times beyond traditional pricing.

The innovation addresses the challenge golf courses face with no-shows and unrecovered revenues by allowing dynamic pricing to work both ways. Traditionally, courses set fixed green fees and suffered lost income when players failed to show up. With Golf District’s prepaid, non-refundable system, bookings can be resold up to 30 minutes before play, mitigating lost fees and tapping into unmet demand. For example, if a golfer originally paid $400 for a sought-after tee time, another golfer could offer $1,000 for that slot; if accepted, both the course and original buyer financially benefit.

Black Gold Golf Club in California became the pioneer U.S. course to implement PricePoint, reflecting the appetite for such market transparency among popular venues that fill their prime weekend windows well in advance. Golf District’s co-CEO Kevin Kalner describes the platform as "true price discovery" for golf tee times, providing access to supply that was previously unavailable, while JC Resorts COO John McNair highlighted its potential to transform how operators think about perishable inventory pricing.

Golf District’s model shares transaction fees evenly with participating courses and allows them to increase rates and shift booking policies to optimize revenue, as evidenced by Encinitas Ranch’s success with a 38% public rate increase and reduction in no-shows after adopting the platform. PricePoint’s dynamic marketplace not only benefits operators with new revenue streams but also empowers golfers to recover costs or capitalize on demand surges, creating a novel ecosystem at the intersection of golf and digital commerce.
