Howard University Alum Chequan Lewis Appointed CEO Of Crunch Fitness

Chequan Lewis, an alum of Howard University where he studied political science and economics, has been appointed CEO of Crunch Fitness as of June 2026. His career journey includes diverse roles, starting at McMaster-Carr in Atlanta where he gained management experience outside the traditional business track. Lewis later combined his legal expertise and passion for business at Yum! Brands, advising Pizza Hut’s various departments and climbing the ranks to chief operating officer before joining Crunch Fitness as president in January 2024.

Lewis shared on the “Aspire to Inspire” podcast that his leadership approach is deeply influenced by a family ethos to make the most of the opportunities he’s been given. His transition to Crunch Fitness was motivated by his love for fitness and his belief in its power to help people achieve their best selves. He also expressed excitement about leading a growing brand with significant potential for expansion both domestically and globally, building on Crunch’s foundation since its start in 1989.

Promoted from president to CEO, Lewis succeeds Jim Rowley, who led the company since 2019 and now becomes Executive Chairman. Lewis aims to continue the momentum and focus on supporting Crunch’s franchise network, investing in innovation, and disciplined growth while preserving the company’s culture and values, including its signature “No Judgments, No Limits” ethos that defines the Crunch experience.

This leadership change comes at a pivotal time for Crunch Fitness as it seeks to expand its footprint in the competitive fitness industry. Lewis's unique background bridging legal, operational, and business expertise positions him to drive growth and strengthen the brand’s community impact. His appointment underscores Crunch’s commitment to innovation and inclusive leadership as it charts its future.
