Anthropic has enhanced its AI assistant, Claude, by merging the memory systems of its chat and coworking applications. This update allows Claude to retain information shared in one part of the app and apply it seamlessly across others, eliminating the need for users to repeatedly re-enter project details, preferences, or context when switching between tasks. For instance, information discussed during the planning phase can now be instantly recalled during execution, making the overall experience more fluid and integrated.

This continuous memory feature transforms Claude into a more coherent assistant by maintaining ongoing knowledge, such as project specifics or event details, across various interactions. Previously, users had to brief the AI anew whenever transitioning from research to action, causing frustration. Now, Claude remembers specifics like event headcount or speaker names during conference planning, streamlining workflows and boosting productivity. The AI even updates memory dynamically while conversations are in progress instead of waiting until the chat ends.

Users are given control over what Claude saves in its memory, with the option to view, edit, or delete stored information. By default, Claude excludes sensitive personal data such as health details, ethnicity, religious beliefs, and politics, although users can opt in to include these if desired. The system is designed to never retain sensitive data that violates acceptable use policies, like Social Security numbers or immigration status, and users receive notifications when sensitive topics are recorded.

The memory upgrade is now available to all users on the Free, Pro, and Max plans across web, desktop, and mobile platforms. iOS and Android users need to update their apps to access the feature. Anthropic’s move to create a shared memory bank across Claude’s functionalities aims to make AI assistance more intuitive and less repetitive, enhancing the utility of the AI in real-world work scenarios.
