Capital F closes $17M debut fund with goal to back the future of the ‘female economy’

Capital F, an all-female-led venture capital firm, has closed its inaugural fund at $17 million. The fund focuses on investing in companies that serve the "female economy," defined as markets driven predominantly by women’s demand. According to co-founder Margaret Coblentz, Capital F targets three main sectors: women’s health, digital commerce, and AI tools. Co-founder Dawn Dobras highlighted that AI innovations are critical as women often face disproportionate trust and safety issues online.

Coblentz and Dobras have extensive backgrounds in retail and entrepreneurship, having worked together for over 30 years. Their combined experience includes Dobras’ leadership at Credo Beauty and tenure at Gap and Charlotte Russe, plus Coblentz’s work at Charlotte Russe and her own luxury knitwear brand. The two launched Capital F out of a desire to increase female representation in venture capital, noting the underrepresentation of women in executive and investor roles throughout their careers.

Part of their fundraising approach included hosting salon events nationwide to engage women interested in venture investing. This strategy resulted in nearly 80% of their limited partners being women, including notable figures like Rothy’s CEO Jenny Ming and former Pottery Barn CEO Marta Benson. They emphasize building strong relationships between founders and investors, often connecting portfolio companies with LPs who become advisors or sales partners.

Capital F has already invested in 13 early-stage startups, deploying checks ranging from $250,000 to $1 million. Their portfolio includes companies like telemedicine platform Hey Jane and period-tracking app Stardust. A notable early success was the acquisition of Big Sur AI by Google. The fund expects to fully deploy its capital by the end of 2027, backing companies that aim to transform women-centered markets with innovative, timely solutions.
