Olamide Olowe has stepped down as CEO of Topicals, the skincare brand she co-founded in 2020 with Claudia Teng. Since its inception, Topicals has focused on providing science-backed products targeting skin concerns such as acne, hyperpigmentation, and dark spots for diverse skin tones. The brand has seen impressive growth, including selling over 10 million eye masks, achieving 12x revenue growth in five years, maintaining double-digit profitability, and raising more than $22 million in venture capital.
Topicals has also attracted notable investors like WNBA star Angel Reese and Nigerian singer Rema, reflecting its growing cultural relevance. The brand is available at Sephora, where it made history in 2022 as the fastest-growing skincare brand, with products selling at a remarkable rate of one per minute. Despite stepping down as CEO, Olowe will remain involved in daily operations while partnering with new leadership to expand the company’s reach and impact.
Sukiana Chancy has been named the new CEO of Topicals. Chancy brings extensive experience to the role, having previously served as general manager of skin, hair, and fragrance divisions at Fenty Beauty. Her background also includes leadership positions at Cay Skin, Devacurl, and Estée Lauder Companies. Chancy views Topicals as a culturally resonant brand founded by a Black woman, similar to Fenty Beauty, and aims to enhance its infrastructure and visibility to reach a broader audience.
Under Chancy’s leadership, Topicals plans to build on its current presence in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., targeting expansion into the Middle East, Africa, and greater European markets. The transition marks a new chapter for the company as it continues to grow and amplify its mission to serve diverse skin needs through inclusive and innovative skincare solutions.
