Billionaire Robert Kraft revealed that singer Ed Sheeran reached out to him requesting a $2 million commitment for humanitarian aid following a controversy involving rapper Macklemore’s pro-Palestinian remarks. This came after Macklemore was removed from the remaining U.S. dates of Sheeran’s tour, which the billionaire said coincided with conversations about matching a $1 million donation the rapper pledged for Palestinian relief. Kraft said Sheeran also intends to encourage other venue owners to make additional contributions to address the humanitarian crisis.

The dispute escalated when Macklemore made pro-Palestinian comments during a show at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, leading to his removal from Sheeran’s tour. Macklemore later explained on Instagram that Kraft, who owns Gillette Stadium, along with other venue owners, pressured Sheeran to drop the rapper or face cancellations of his own tour dates. He emphasized that while antisemitism is a serious issue, criticism of Israel and support for Palestine should not be conflated with hatred towards Jewish people.

In the fallout, all of Sheeran’s other supporting acts—Finneas, Aaron Rowe, Irish band Beoga, and Danish band Lukas Graham—also withdrew from the tour in solidarity. Finneas posted that artists should not be silenced when advocating for the oppressed, highlighting the heightened tensions surrounding political expression in the music industry. Sheeran’s Loop Tour, which started earlier this year, has been performing globally, with the North American leg running until November 7.
