Slate Auto teams up with Crayola to color its EV truck

Slate Auto, a new electric vehicle startup supported by Jeff Bezos, is drawing attention with its focus on simplicity and customization. The company offers an unpainted, gray electric truck priced at $24,950, with a 205-mile range, allowing buyers to personalize their vehicles through various accessories, including vehicle wraps, lighting, and decals. These wraps, printed vinyl films that can be applied without painting, have become a key part of Slate’s customization approach.

In a recent development, Slate Auto has partnered with Crayola to offer vehicle wraps featuring five distinctive Crayola crayon colors—Cerulean, Fern, Jersey Tomato, Razzmatazz, and Dandelion. These wraps are priced at $1,549.99, and come with matching Crayola key fobs and custom art pieces called “Slatelets” for the dashboard, providing a unique and playful way to personalize the electric truck. This marks Crayola’s first venture into an automotive collaboration.

Slate’s emphasis on customization also includes artistic collaboration beyond Crayola, such as working with New York City artist Max Kolo to produce exclusive vehicle wraps. While Slate has not disclosed other such partnerships, the company’s spokesperson hinted at future collaborations, signaling an ongoing strategy to attract creative makers and designers to expand its range of customizable vehicle wraps.

Although still a newcomer, having gone public in April 2025 and recently opened for pre-orders, Slate Auto aims to shake up the EV market by making personalization accessible. The base two-seat truck can be upgraded to a five-seat SUV for $29,950, reflecting Slate’s flexible approach to design and function. The partnership with Crayola adds a distinct color option likely to appeal to customers looking for a bold, expressive electric vehicle.
