MIPCOM 2026 Explores How AI And Digital Platforms Are Reshaping TV

MIPCOM 2026, held from October 12 to 15 at Cannes’ Palais des Festivals, gathers over 10,600 attendees from traditional broadcasters, streaming platforms, producers, and tech companies to address the evolving global television business. The event spotlights the shift from traditional content financing and distribution to strategies embracing digital platforms and intellectual property monetization across streaming, social video, branded content, and licensing. Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria and Banijay executives take center stage, sharing insights on global and local content strategies, while YouTube expands its influence through sessions on distribution and partnerships with conventional media companies.

A key feature of this year’s market is the introduction of the MIP AI Entertainment Forum, designed to explore AI’s transformative role in production, dubbing, subtitling, content discovery, and workflow efficiencies. Participants include tech and creative leaders like Utopai Studios’ Cecilia Shen and CJ ENM’s Ken Oh, focusing on balancing AI’s promise of cost savings and creative enhancement with unresolved issues around intellectual property rights, data permissions, and fair compensation. This emphasis marks AI’s progression from experimental tool to critical element in entertainment business models.

The conference also highlights the rising impact of short-form vertical storytelling and creator-driven content within a mobile-first ecosystem. Creator entrepreneur Dhar Mann headlined the pre-opening program, reflecting MIPCOM’s growing embrace of creator economy themes. The event’s expanded Creator Economy program and new MIP BrandWorks initiative aim to link creators, brands, studios, and agencies, supporting innovative financing and partnerships beyond traditional broadcaster or streaming-only models by targeting multiple distribution channels simultaneously.

On the international front, MIPCOM underscores global collaboration with significant representation from nearly 50 Spanish companies and participants from Latin America—including Globo, Caracol, TelevisaUnivision, and TV Azteca—and Asia’s CJ ENM, Nippon TV, and JioStar. This multiregional focus is complemented by co-production sessions and premieres such as the BBC and ZDF’s “Honey” series. As the industry confronts economic pressures, fragmented audiences, and rising competition, MIPCOM serves as both a marketplace for new content deals and a platform for exploring evolving business models driven by digital, AI, and creator-led innovation.
