Dubai’s Global Village has claimed the title of the world’s most-visited theme park in 2024, surpassing Disney’s Magic Kingdom with an average daily attendance of 49,505 visitors. Owned by Dubai Holding Entertainment and occupying 394.9 acres, the park operates seasonally from October to May, featuring cultural pavilions representing 29 countries, over 31 rides, 3,500 shopping outlets, and 250 dining options. Despite receiving numerous partnership requests from major global brands, CEO Fernando Eiroa deliberately rejects them to maintain the park’s authenticity and provide a platform for small and medium enterprises.
Originally launched in 1997 as a small pop-up with kiosks from ten countries, Global Village expanded significantly in 2005 when it moved to a permanent site and upgraded its attractions. The park distinguishes itself by offering a family-friendly mix of rides and immersive cultural experiences, including attractions like the new Tokyo Rush roller coaster and a slate of live shows that cover a variety of genres and cultures. Operating only during the cooler months allows the park to refurbish and introduce new attractions annually, ensuring a fresh experience for returning visitors.
Eiroa emphasizes that Global Village’s success lies in its authenticity and support of local businesses rather than hosting international franchise brands. Many eateries and shops have used the park as a springboard to wider success across Dubai and beyond, examples being Bosnian House and Mini Pancakes, the latter earning international recognition after debuting here. The park works closely with Dubai’s Economic Department by incubating small business concepts, helping them reach diverse audiences without compromising the cultural integrity of each pavilion.
Ticket pricing also sets Global Village apart, with entry costing around $7 and ride tickets sold separately, making it much more accessible than Disney parks, where daily tickets exceed $200. This affordability, coupled with a diverse entertainment lineup, food offerings, and shopping experiences, appeals to a broad demographic. Although it meets criteria to be listed by the Themed Entertainment Association, Global Village is only recently gaining recognition in official reports, with experts highlighting its impressive attendance and unique place in Dubai’s cultural and entertainment landscape.
