NBA Team Values 2026: Warriors Still Rule After Lakers Sale

The Golden State Warriors remain the most valuable NBA franchise in 2026, with a valuation of $13.5 billion and an estimated $942 million in revenue last season. This marks a 23% increase from 2025. Despite high-profile sales, including the Lakers’ $12.5 billion purchase by Josh Kushner and Bob Iger, the Lakers rank third in team worth behind the New York Knicks, who are valued at $12.6 billion, up 29% year-over-year. The NBA’s 30 teams now average a value of $6.1 billion each, reflecting a 14% rise since last year and a remarkable 147% jump from 2021.

This year saw unusual activity in NBA ownership, with two rapid turnovers in August: the Lakers changed hands within ten months of acquisition, and the Minnesota Timberwolves saw a major stake purchased by limited partner Marc Stad, shortly after billionaire Marc Lore took control. Both deals, pending NBA board approval, promise substantial returns for sellers, highlighting the league’s high valuation environment. For instance, Lore sold the Timberwolves and Lynx for $4.5 billion after agreeing to buy them at $1.5 billion, underscoring explosive growth in franchise value.

While revenue streams like sponsorship and attendance continue to grow, the league faces challenges due to the collapse of regional sports networks, which slashed local media revenue for sixteen teams from $40 million to $13 million on average. To counteract this, the NBA hired NESN’s Matt Volk to manage local media and aims to bundle team rights into a streaming hub for the 2027-28 season. Yet, overall league revenue neared $14 billion last year, helped by a record-setting $76 billion broadcast deal with NBC and Amazon.

Looking ahead, expansion talks with potential franchises in Las Vegas and Seattle could bring in fees as high as $9 to $10 billion per team, further boosting the financial landscape. The NBA is also expanding its global footprint through initiatives like the Basketball Africa League and a new European league, which could open additional revenue streams and talent pipelines. The increasing valuation multiples—NBA teams now average a 13.1x revenue multiple—compare favorably with other sports leagues, signaling sustained investor confidence and lucrative future commercial opportunities.
