Matiks raises $10M to expand its math and puzzle gaming platform

Matiks, an India-based gaming startup, has raised $10 million in a pre-Series A funding round led by General Catalyst, with contributions from Indian entrepreneur Ronnie Screwvala and existing investors like InfoEdge Ventures, Tanglin Venture Partners, and Untitled Ventures. This latest funding brings Matiks’ total capital raised to over $13.5 million. Founded by Sudhanshu Bhatia, Mohan Kumar, and Sushant Timmapur, the platform aims to offer users engaging math, puzzle, logic, and memory games that combine entertainment with cognitive skill-building. Matiks has notably expanded its daily active user base from 22,000 earlier this year to over 300,000 by September, reaching 2.2 million monthly active users that same month.

The app features a mix of solo practice against bots and real-time competitions between players, allowing users to choose from categories like Math, Puzzles, Memory, and Logic. Players can engage in challenges and quests to gather points, sustain winning streaks, and unlock new game variations. Matiks prioritizes a user-friendly experience, avoiding aggressive monetization tactics such as intrusive ads or pushy in-game purchases. While subscription services have just started rolling out, offering perks like gameplay analysis and strategic tips, the app also includes options to buy in-game boosts such as streak protection and challenge skips.

Though Matiks’ main audience currently resides in India, the startup is gaining traction internationally, especially in markets like the United States, South Korea, and Japan. Plans are underway to enhance localization features to better serve expansion efforts in the latter two countries. The company also sees itself responding to a broader entertainment landscape saturated with AI-generated content by delivering thoughtful, brain-challenging games that encourage mental engagement.

Innovatively, Matiks has launched Jelo, an experimental game creation platform that empowers users to build and share their own games, leveraging AI in a generative but user-controlled manner. This move places Matiks in direct competition with ventures like Google’s AI-powered gaming platform Playground yet highlights its commitment to community involvement and creativity. With a full-time team of 41 employees, Matiks plans to allocate the fresh capital to accelerate product development and deepen market reach, backed by investor confidence in the company’s rapid iteration and strong user engagement.
