Reddit is the latest platform to embrace the ‘For You’ feed

Reddit has introduced a new “For You” feed to its platform, following a trend popularized by TikTok and adopted by other social media companies like Instagram, X, Threads, and Facebook. Announced on October 28, 2026, the update offers users a choice between two feed options upon opening the app: “For You” and “Following.” The “For You” feed blends posts from communities users are part of with algorithmically recommended content tailored to their interests, aiming to help users discover new and relevant communities and conversations.

The “Following” feed remains dedicated to showing content only from communities that users have joined, preserving the traditional Reddit experience for those who prefer a more focused stream. Reddit emphasized that the new design seeks to boost user connection, participation, and sense of belonging by encouraging engagement beyond existing subscriptions. This shift marks a move toward a recommendation-driven model, reflecting wider industry standards where algorithms play a major role in content curation.

While the new “For You” feed aims to create a richer and more diverse user experience, some users have already voiced concerns during early testing, expressing dissatisfaction with seeing posts outside their subscribed communities. Reddit has responded by reassuring its community that users can easily toggle between the two feeds and that the platform will remember their last selected option for convenience. This flexibility is intended to balance user preferences with the goal of enhancing content discovery.

Reddit described the beta experience as a step toward cultivating novel interactions and fresh perspectives, highlighting a vision of the internet as a more participatory and human-centered space rather than a passive one. The rollout of the “For You” feed is slated to occur globally in the coming weeks, signaling Reddit’s ongoing efforts to modernize its user interface and align with evolving social media consumption habits.
