Dunlop is launching the fourth generation of its CX Series tennis racket on October 30, 2026, with a clear goal of enhancing control while improving stability and comfort. The update involves re-engineering the racket’s frame construction, specifically optimizing stiffness distribution and repositioning the Sonic Core foam made with Infinergy. These changes are designed to refine the interplay between feel, stability, and comfort without sacrificing the precision that the CX line is known for, according to Keith Lloyd, Dunlop’s product leader for racket sports.
The engineers decreased stiffness in the upper parts of the hoop at the 2 and 10 o’clock positions, allowing more inward deformation during ball impact for better tactile feedback and responsiveness. To counterbalance this softness, they increased stiffness below these positions to boost torsional stability, helping players maintain better control over the racket orientation. Additionally, Sonic Core foam was relocated to the 3 and 9 o’clock zone to preserve comfort and feel despite the changes in stiffness. This thoughtful balance of frame flexibility and rigidity aims to deliver a confident and precise playing experience.
The new 2027 CX Series will include seven models, offering players various options for different playing styles and preferences. Highlights include a new CX 200 18x20 model with a tighter string pattern on a 98-square-inch frame, as well as updates to weight and head size across several versions like the 95-square-inch CX 200 Tour and larger-headed, lighter frames such as the CX 200 OS and CX 400. This lineup strategy widens the appeal of the CX philosophy, catering both to aggressive players seeking compact control and those preferring more forgiveness and maneuverability.
Tour players like Daniel Merida, who reached a career-high world No. 39 this season, are expected to adopt the new rackets ahead of the 2027 season. Other notable Dunlop users include top doubles player Henry Patten, Jenson Brooksby, Darja Semenistaja, and Sabrina Santamaria. Dunlop emphasized thorough real-world testing to ensure that the racket improvements work together, providing enhanced stability without compromising the signature feel and responsiveness that have earned the CX series its strong reputation in the tennis gear market.
