Agent identity startup Mintive lands Cowboy Ventures, Coatue, angels Jeff Dean, Andrej Karpathy

Mintive, a startup focused on agent identity and management, has secured $11 million in funding with a recent $7 million seed round led by Cowboy Ventures. Other investors include Coatue, Operator Collective, Hustle Fund, and prominent angels such as Jeff Dean, former Google Chief Scientist; Andrej Karpathy, OpenAI co-founder; and Okta co-founder Frederic Kerrest. The company was founded by Jiquan Ngiam, Mintive’s CEO and an early engineer at Coursera and Google Brain, and Vijay Vasudevan, CTO and co-creator of TensorFlow during his time at Google Brain.

Mintive offers a platform that allows IT teams to easily govern and monitor AI agents across cloud services. The platform integrates an MCP gateway to control agent access and permissions, a large language model gateway to route requests and manage costs, and comprehensive agent monitoring. Enterprises can also build agents that autonomously perform long-term tasks, enabling greater automation while maintaining security and compliance.

Despite a competitive landscape crowded with offerings from Amazon, Microsoft, OpenAI, Anthropic, and numerous startups, Mintive differentiates itself with its focus on ease of use and rapid deployment. Ngiam highlights that the platform simplifies setup to just a few clicks and abstracts complex backend management, which has resonated with more than 50 enterprise customers including Ro, Modern Treasury, the University of Michigan, Coursera, Apax, and Stability AI.

Cowboy Ventures managing partner Aileen Lee praises Mintive’s careful capital approach amid a market where startups frequently chase large rounds. She emphasizes that the founders’ experience and measured fundraising strategy position the company to deliver meaningful progress without unnecessary financial risk. As demand for infrastructure enabling AI governance and control grows, Mintive’s leadership and product simplicity could provide it an edge in the evolving enterprise AI agent space.
