Prince Gyasi Went From Shooting On An iPhone To Designing A Davido Cognac Bottle Sold In Africa And The US

Prince Gyasi, a Ghanaian visual artist who initially gained fame by shooting photographs on an iPhone, has expanded his creative reach by designing a limited-edition cognac bottle featuring Nigerian artist Davido. This collaboration with Martell was launched in New York City on October 28, 2026, marking Gyasi’s first product as Martell’s newly named creative partner. The bottle design showcases Gyasi’s interpretation of Davido’s portrait with surrounding soundwaves, symbolizing the musical energy the singer brings, a theme Gyasi wanted to capture through color, movement, and emotion.

Martell’s partnership with Gyasi builds on his established brand collaborations, including work with Apple, where his photography has been used to highlight the iPhone 16 camera, and Balmain, which featured his art in their Autumn/Winter 2024 menswear collection. His creative partnership with Martell extends beyond product design to include films and cultural events, with the first project being a short film directed by TJ Sawyerr. Though the financial terms of this partnership remain undisclosed, it reflects Gyasi’s growing influence in blending art with commercial ventures.

The cognac bottle comes in two editions: the VS version, which retails for $35 and is available in the U.S., and the higher-end XO, released exclusively in Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya. Martell’s parent company, Pernod Ricard, noted strong sales growth for high-end spirits in Nigeria despite economic challenges, underscoring the brand’s strategic market positioning. Davido himself has been a Martell partner for five years and praised Gyasi’s involvement for elevating the collaboration by visually linking the music and creative vision.

The launch event was notable for its high-profile attendance, including artists and cultural figures such as Tristan “Mack” Wilds and Joey Bada$$. Davido and Gyasi engaged in a fireside chat before Davido performed alongside Nigerian DJ Ecool. Additionally, Davido’s new music video for “Already Falling,” which features the Martell bottles, was filmed at the brand’s estate in Cognac, France, further intertwining music and visual artistry in this innovative partnership.
