Swedish electric and autonomous trucking company Einride has announced it will acquire EV charging startup Flipturn in an all-stock deal valued at $38 million. This move marks Einride’s first acquisition since going public and aims to enhance its EV-charging offerings as it expands its electric trucking operations. Flipturn, founded in 2022 and backed by $15.5 million in venture capital, specializes in charging software that works across various EV chargers using the Open Charge Point Protocol, an industry standard for charger communication.

Flipturn’s platform manages charging infrastructure by monitoring equipment health and integrating key data such as vehicle battery status, driving history, and routes. It also supports integration with solar and energy storage systems on site, helping fleet operators optimize their energy usage. The company has 17 employees who will remain with Flipturn after the acquisition, which is expected to close within the month.

Einride CEO Roozbeh Charli highlighted that the acquisition is a critical part of the company’s U.S. growth strategy. By bringing charging software in-house, Einride plans to become more vertically integrated, offering customers not only electric trucks but also the software needed to ensure efficient and reliable vehicle charging. This combination is designed to encourage more customers to transition to electric heavy-duty trucks by addressing common challenges related to charging infrastructure.

Einride operates about 200 heavy-duty electric trucks for major companies such as Heineken, PepsiCo, and Carlsberg across Europe, North America, and the UAE. Recently, the company secured Amazon as a customer, providing electric trucks managed through Einride’s own Saga AI software for use in Amazon’s Relay freight network. This acquisition and ongoing partnerships position Einride to scale its electric trucking business while building out a robust EV charging ecosystem.
