The rollout will begin with Australia and Canada in mid-August before reaching all other markets later in the year. Similar to Apple’s age-verification system, Google’s API allows developers to access an age range signal without collecting exact birthdates or personal data. This information can be shared by parents to manage their child’s app experience or by adults when requested by app developers to customize content. To simplify management, Google integrates these controls into its parental control platform, Family Link, so parents can grant consent once rather than on a per-app basis.

The age ranges from the Play Age Signals API are only accessible to developers if parents opt in, ensuring privacy and user control. This system complements Google's existing suite of safety features on Google Play, including tools that let developers restrict child users from discovering certain apps and parental tools to set screen-time limits or content filters via Family Link.
