Delta Center Plans Include Front Door Facing New Fan District

Smith Entertainment Group (SEG), owner of the NBA’s Utah Jazz and NHL’s Mammoth, is spearheading a transformative project to renovate the Delta Center and its surrounding 35-acre downtown area in Salt Lake City. A key feature of the stadium’s redesign, expected to be completed by 2028, is relocating the arena’s front entrance to face east, aligning with a newly envisioned entertainment district. This district aims to capitalize on the area's vibrancy in anticipation of the 2034 Winter Olympics, offering an engaging fan experience through a connected walkway and paseo that integrates culture, sports, conventions, and dining.

The broader development includes significant new facilities and upgrades designed to complement the arena. SEG has mapped out plans for a 6,000-seat Live Nation music venue projected to hold 80 to 120 events annually, a vertical reconstruction of the Salt Palace convention center, a new art museum, enhancements to Abravanel Hall—the city’s symphony home—and expanded retail, dining, and lodging options. This ambitious mixed-use district intends to create a central hub for residents and visitors, fostering year-round entertainment beyond sports.

The Delta Center itself has already seen major improvements since the Mammoth joined as tenants, including renovations to seating that allow optimal views for both hockey and basketball audiences. Recent off-season upgrades added terrace-style ledges, premium hospitality with suspended gondolas offering unique vantage points, a new parking structure, and expanded amenities like food and beverage outlets, social spaces, restrooms, and club areas. Suite renovations began in 2026, with completion set for 2027, together with modifications to the seating bowl to improve sightlines accommodating both NBA and NHL events.

Local officials have praised the development’s impact on Salt Lake City’s future. Mayor Erin Mendenhall called the project a “massive win,” highlighting how the integrated approach connects sports, culture, and convention activities within the vibrant new fan district. Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson pointed out that the upgraded Salt Palace will play a crucial role during the 2034 Olympic Games. With these plans, SEG is positioning the Delta Center and its environs as a dynamic, year-round destination and economic driver for the city.
