Apple unveils new iPad mini with OLED display and faster A20 Pro chip

Apple has introduced its latest iPad mini, featuring a larger 8.5-inch OLED display, a thinner and lighter design than previous models, and powered by the new A20 Pro chip. The device starts at $699 for the Wi-Fi version and $849 for the Wi-Fi and cellular model. This update was announced on October 26, 2026, just days ahead of Apple’s anticipated "Pro and Tell" event set for October 28.

The new iPad mini boasts a significant display upgrade, offering peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits—more than double that of its predecessor—along with a 2 million:1 contrast ratio and full-screen brightness of 600 nits for both SDR and HDR content. Apple has also introduced a nano-texture display option to minimize glare, a feature previously limited to the iPad Pro line. Additionally, the Super Retina XDR display uses OLED technology to deliver deeper blacks, richer contrast, and wider color gamut support.

This generation includes a 12-megapixel front camera with Center Stage, improved wireless and cellular capabilities, and fast-charging support. Apple's addition of an "Acoustic Display" integrates woofers within the screen to enhance audio quality, producing deeper bass and higher volume for an enriched experience during gaming, video watching, and content editing.

Powered by the A20 Pro chip with a 6-core CPU and a 7-core GPU equipped with Neural Accelerators, the new iPad mini achieves up to 60% faster multithreaded performance and 4.5 times the AI processing speed compared to its predecessor. It also launches alongside enhanced Apple Intelligence and Siri AI features that offer more personalized assistance by understanding user context. Preorders open on October 28, with the device becoming available on November 6.
